Baku: Addressing COP29, the annual UN conference on climate change in Baku on Tuesday, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán called for a climate policy guided by common sense, rather than ideology, alarmism or panic. Speaking among more than 40 heads of state and government addressing the meeting, PM Orbán noted that European Union leaders have adopted a declaration on competitiveness that will shape the EU’s approach to climate issues too.
According to About Hungary, PM Orbán emphasized the need to advance the green transition while maintaining the use of natural gas, oil, and nuclear energy. He stressed that the financial burden of climate change should not fall on farmers, highlighting the importance of avoiding unrealistic quotas or burdensome regulations. Instead, he advocated for offering practical support to farmers and companies.
PM Orbán concluded by urging that the green transition and the fight against climate change should be conducted in cooperation with the business community, rather than opposing it.
His remarks underscored the necessity of balancing environmental goals with economic realities to ensure sustainable progress.
