Perugia Prosecutors Look Into ‘Rome Intelligence Leak’

Perugia: The Perugia Public Prosecutor’s Office announced on Monday that it has begun investigating a complaint filed by the DIS department, which coordinates Italy’s intelligence agencies, against the Rome Public Prosecutor’s Office led by Francesco Lo Voi. The investigation concerns the leaking of a confidential report.

According to Ansa News Agency, the case revolves around the publication by the daily newspaper Domani of information related to Premier Giorgia Meloni’s Chief of Staff, Gaetano Caputi. The information was sourced from a classified document by the Aisi intelligence agency. It is alleged that Lo Voi’s office received the document and did not take adequate measures to prevent its leak.

Tensions between the government and Lo Voi’s office were already high prior to this incident. This was due to the office’s decision to include Meloni and several other ministers in the register of individuals being investigated in relation to the case of Osama Almasri Najim. Najim, a Libyan judicial police chief, was released by Italy last month shortly after being detained in Turin on an International Criminal Court (ICC) warrant.
