PD Leader Schlein Condemns Violence Following Ramy Protests


Bologna: Elly Schlein, the leader of the largest member of the opposition, the Democratic Party (PD), expressed full support to Bologna Mayor Matteo Lepore and local residents, condemning all acts of violence, after a protest against the death of Ramy Elgaml, a 19-year-old who died on November 24 while being chased by Carabinieri police in Milan, turned violent.

According to Ansa News Agency, Schlein stated, “Full support to the mayor of Bologna and to Bologna citizens for the devastation and violence last night that also affected some members of the police forces, as well as the Synagogue and various stores.” Schlein emphasized the Democratic Party’s unwavering stance against violence and urged the Right not to exploit the situation for political gain.

Schlein also highlighted the significance of the statement made by Ramy’s family, who called for peaceful demonstrations and opposed any exploitation of their tragic loss.
