Budapest: Time cannot stop at ’56, so many ordinary heroes who believed in Hungarian freedom cannot sink into oblivion – said KDNP XVI. the president of the district organization Let’s Build a Bridge! at a commemoration held at Péter Mansfeld Park in Buda on Monday. Ádám Horváth of KDNP II. district and XVI. at the event of his district’s basic organization, on the anniversary of the crushing of the 1956 revolution and freedom struggle, and the entry of Soviet troops, he drew attention to the importance of remembrance.
According to KDNP, it is the task of all of us to regularly remember, pass on, and introduce the new generations to all the many struggles and sacrifices that our predecessors made so that we could live in freedom,” said the KDNP politician, mentioning the heroes of ’56, including Ilona Tóth, Péter Mansfeld, Gergely Pongrácz, Mária Wittner, and Erika Szeles.
István Bálványkövi, KDNP II. the president of its district base organization put it this way: “we Hungarians have known since 1956 that
not only foreign invaders and murderers can cause the loss of a nation, but also compromisers, the helpless and the incompetent, who were able to sell the freedom of their own people because of their own weaknesses”. He added that the incompetence and compromise between the leaders of Europe and the world can often be seen today. “We can often see that they are able to sacrifice their own nation because of their helplessness and weakness. They demand unconditional silent solidarity, acceptance, and peace tolerance, while on numerous occasions they relativize the self-determination and sovereignty of nations” he declared.
Remembering the martyrs, Csaba Gór, the Fidesz constituency president, emphasized: the love of freedom of the Hungarian people cannot be silenced. “Throughout our history, we have always had to fight for Hungary, our nation, and national sovereignty, and history teaches us that we must fight for this today and in the future,” he emphasized. “Without the sacrifice of the heroes, there is no f
ree, democratic Hungary today, and there will be none if we do not respect this sacrifice. Only in this way can we preserve the values for which they gave their lives, freedom, patriotism, and the national ideal. That is why we can never forget the crimes committed against us by communism. We owe it to the lives and sacrifices of our heroes to teach our descendants about 1956,” said the Fidesz politician on the national day of mourning.
At the end of the commemoration, the participants placed wreaths at the statue of Péter Mansfeld.
