Orb¡n Criticizes Opposition for Alleged Foreign Influence

Budapest: In a video posted on Facebook, Prime Minister Viktor Orb¡n stated that it made no difference whether the opposition was labeled as DK or Tisza Party, emphasizing that “their masters are the same.”

According to About Hungary, the video was shared by Tam¡s Menczer, the communications director of the ruling Fidesz-Christian Democrats, on Sunday. In the video, Orb¡n highlighted the presence of strong opposing forces: “We Hungarian patriots on one side, and I would not underestimate us, being several million people, and Brussels on the other side. And the Hungarians who support Brussels against their own national government.”

Orb¡n further elaborated that the designation of the opposition forces was irrelevant, whether it be DK or Tisza, Ferenc Gyurcs¡ny or P©ter Magyar. He argued that despite any changes in names or symbols, the fundamental source of power backing the opposition remained unchanged. “They can announce a new team, they can change the flag of the team, but the real source of power behind them is the same,” Orb¡n asserted.

The Prime Minister also reiterated a familiar narrative, presenting the political choice as one between a puppet government, subservient to Brussels, and a national government. He claimed that this choice was crucial for maintaining government measures that Brussels allegedly wanted to reverse, such as pensioners’ annual bonus, the power to tax multinationals and banks, and the regulated utilities price scheme for households.
