Nordio Considers Transferring Libyan Police Chief’s Case to Rome’s Prosecutor General

Rome: Justice Minister Carlo Nordio announced Tuesday that he is contemplating whether to forward the case involving the head of the Libyan judicial police, who was apprehended in Turin on Sunday, to the Prosecutor General of Rome. This decision comes in light of the “complex” charges against the official, who is wanted by the International Criminal Court (ICC) for alleged brutality.

According to Ansa News Agency, Nordio confirmed that the International Criminal Court has requested the arrest of Libyan citizen Najeem Osema Almasri Habish. The minister stated that due to the intricate nature of the correspondence and documentation related to the case, he is considering the formal submission of the ICC’s request to Rome’s Prosecutor General, in accordance with Article 4 of Law 237 of 2012.

Habish faces charges of violent and brutal treatment of migrants in a Libyan prison, further complicating the legal proceedings and elevating the case’s significance.
