No Tolerance for Abuse in the Church Says Pope
Vatican city: There is no tolerance for clerical sex abuse in the Catholic Church, Pope Leo XIV said Thursday. “I renew my appeal for zero tolerance for any form of abuse in the Church,” Leo wrote in a message to the Church of the Philippines, which is currently convening the Episcopal Conference’s child protection body.
According to Ansa News Agency, Pope Leo XIV emphasized the importance of implementing essential policies and practices that ensure transparency in handling abuse cases. He urged Church leaders to promote a preventive culture and safeguard the vulnerable, referring to them as ‘these little ones’ of the Lord. The Pope expressed hope that the ongoing deliberations would lead to effective measures to address and prevent abuse within the Church.
