Nicosia responds to occupation regime’s provocations via the EU and the UN, Spokesman says

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is taking concrete actions to respond to the illegal actions of the occupation regime in Cyprus Turkish occupied areas, via the European Union and the United Nations, Government Spokesman Konstantinos Letymbiotis has said.

Invited to comment on the recent actions of the occupation regime against Greek Cypriots, such as arrests or banning them from entering the occupied territories, the Government Spokesman, speaking on Friday during a media briefing, said that the Foreign Ministry “is taking concrete action on these illegal actions of the occupation regime, through diplomatic channels and with the European Union first and foremost, but also with the United Nations, to address these challenges”.

Cyprus has been divided since 1974, when Turkey invaded and occupied its northern third. Repeated rounds of UN-led peace talks have so far failed to yield results. The latest round of negotiations, in July 2017 at the Swiss resort of Crans-Montana ended inconclusively.
