Neo-Protectionism Impacting Global Markets and Economy, Warns Mattarella

Rome: President Sergio Mattarella expressed concerns over the economic impact of ‘neo-protectionism’ in a message delivered to the annual assembly of the Italian insurers’ association, ANIA. He highlighted the prevailing global uncertainty, stating, “We find ourselves in a moment characterized by strong uncertainty in Europe and around the world.”

According to Ansa News Agency, President Mattarella emphasized that ongoing conflicts and neo-protectionist pressures contribute to global instability. These factors, he noted, pose a threat not only to humanity’s future but also significantly impact economic and market prospects, particularly within the insurance sector.

He assured that Italy remains in a strong position with positive fundamentals. However, he urged for a collective effort towards the country’s future, emphasizing the importance of increasing competitiveness and creating quality jobs for young people.

President Mattarella further highlighted the critical role of insurance companies in this land
scape. He stated that these companies must ensure that the rise of a climate of risk does not hinder entrepreneurial spirit or infringe on citizens’ rights. He described insurance companies as “sensitive thermometers” of demographic trends and stressed their essential contribution to accompanying changes and achieving development goals.
