Naomi Campbell to Be Godmother of Prestigious Black Carpet Awards

Milan: Top model Naomi Campbell will assume the role of godmother for the third edition of the Black Carpet Awards, scheduled to take place on September 24 at the Teatro Manzoni during Milan Fashion Week, as announced by organizers on Wednesday. The event promises to be a significant highlight of the fashion calendar, celebrating diversity and inclusion within the industry.

According to Ansa News Agency, the Black Carpet Awards are promoted by the Afro Fashion Association, a non-profit organization that was founded in 2015 and operates between Italy and sub-Saharan Africa. The association, which is led by volunteers, aims to use fashion, art, and culture as instruments for intercultural exchange, empowerment, and sustainable economic development.

“This is not just an award, but a platform of visibility for all those people who, often far from the spotlight, work daily to break the mold, broaden their gaze, and build spaces where diversity and inclusion are true cultural, social, and economic values,” explained Alessia Cappello, Councilor for Economic Development of the Milan Municipality.

Michelle Francine Ngonmo, founder and CEO of Afro Fashion Association, highlighted the significance of the event, stating, “Having reached the third edition of the Black Carpet Awards, we renew our invitation to a collective commitment: to rewrite history together.” Ngonmo further emphasized that “‘Black/Nero’ for us represents the sum of all colors, a symbol of plurality and inclusion. Being seen, recognized, and considered an integral part of society is a right that everyone should be able to experience.”
