Minors Convicted of Killing Italian Chef’s Son in Istanbul
Istanbul: Two minors were convicted by a court in Istanbul on Tuesday of the “premeditated homicide” of Mattia Ahmet Minguzzi, the 14-year-old son of Italian chef Andrea Minguzzi and Turkish cellist Yasemin Akincilar, Turkish media reported. The boy died of his injuries in intensive care in February two weeks after being stabbed in an unprovoked attack in a street market in Istanbul’s Kadikoy district.
According to Ansa News Agency, the court handed down jail terms of 24 years to the two 15-year-old minors, identified as U.B. and B.B. This sentence represents the maximum penalty possible for their actions. The tragic incident has drawn significant attention, given the backgrounds of the victim’s parents and the nature of the crime.
