Minister Guly¡s Announces Formation of New Hungarian Left-Wing Party Tisza
Budapest: Minister Gergely Guly¡s, head of the Prime Minister’s Office, announced the emergence of a new left-wing political formation in Hungary called Tisza. Speaking on the online program The Hour of Truth, Minister Guly¡s emphasized that this new formation is a culmination of various left-wing entities that have existed in the country, including the post-communist left and the united opposition of 2022.
According to About Hungary, Minister Guly¡s highlighted that the left’s strategy remains consistent despite past electoral failures. The new Tisza movement is seen as an attempt to rejuvenate their political prospects. He also addressed potential cooperation between the Tisza Party and the Democratic Coalition, noting no significant resistance from either side, including leaders Kl¡ra Dobrev and P©ter Magyar.
Minister Guly¡s also responded to criticism from former finance minister Lajos Bokros regarding the government’s tax exemption policy for mothers of three children. He defended the measure, citing its potential to address demographic challenges that impact the sustainability of pension and healthcare systems.
The minister further criticized European Union plans to utilize frozen Russian assets to support Ukraine, describing it as a declaration of war without legal foundation. He cautioned that such actions could provoke legal challenges and undermine Europe’s global investment standing. Minister Guly¡s expressed concerns about Europe financing the continuation of the conflict rather than seeking an end to it.
He warned that the current EU policy risks leading to a larger conflict and questioned whether the European Union might hinder US-led peace initiatives. Minister Guly¡s was skeptical about Ukraine’s ability to improve its military position and advocated for pursuing peace when possible.
On domestic matters, Minister Guly¡s stated that Hungary boasts the lowest household energy prices in the EU, highlighting the government’s role in consumer protection. He also addressed a recent attack at a Hanukkah event in Sydney, lamenting the loss of life and the impact on community safety perceptions.
Minister Guly¡s concluded by emphasizing Hungary’s commitment to maintaining security for religious gatherings, contrasting this with Western Europe’s perceived decline in safety due to migration and cultural shifts. He stressed the importance of preserving Hungary’s cultural and religious heritage.
