The government intends to strengthen the nationalities by supporting investments for national education and community life, the State Secretary of the Prime Minister’s Office responsible for church and national relations and the vice president of the KDNP said in Pécs on Thursday.

Soltés

Miklós Soltész highlighted at the ceremonial handover of the recently renovated Lenau Ház in Pécs, which is considered the cultural center of the Germans in Hungary south of Transdanubia:

when the government supports the renovation of a communal house, it does so in order to strengthen the nationalities, to help reconnect the threads”.

Turning to the Germans in Hungary, he said that the government is trying to help the local community in preserving and passing on their traditions and that the communities can show from time to time:

Germanness in Hungary is here despite every single attack and is part of the nation”.

He said: with investments similar to the one in Pécs, the cabinet intends to strengthen the spiritual an
d physical background of the nation-building nationalities, but at the same time it demonstrates that it has acceptance and understanding for the ways and characteristics of other peoples.

In this regard, he drew attention to the fact that the unity of the European peoples, which was established in the decades following the Second World War and has been maintained ever since, can only be maintained in the future if each people accepts and respects the views of the other.

Péter Hoppál , the Fidesz parliamentary representative of the region, emphasized: German culture has been present in Hungarian history for centuries, and the German settlers who arrived in the 18th century further deepened this integration. He added: in recent decades, Lenau Ház has tried to do everything in almost every area of ??life so that the Germans and Hungarians in the region live in peace with each other and show respect for each other.

Englenderné Hock Ibolya , the president of the National Self-Government of Hungarian Germans, r
eminded us that the Lenau Association, which was founded before the regime change as the first German organization in Hungary, established its own cultural center in Pécs nearly 35 years ago.

He expressed his hope that the Lenau House, renovated with the support of the Hungarian government and transformed in accordance with the needs of the times, will be able to appeal to young and old people in greater numbers than before, and serve as a meeting point and cultural center for them.

János Flódung , the president of the Nikolaus Lenau Public Culture Association, emphasized that their organization was a torchbearer in the history of Germanness in Hungary, because after the birth of the association, German communities throughout the country became stronger.

The renovation, he said,

serves the purpose of making ties even closer between the members of the German community in Hungary.

During the year-long renovation of the Lenau House, built more than thirty years ago in the city center of Pécs, realized with
government support, the interior spaces of the building were rebuilt, modernized, equipped with new functions, and the courtyard was also developed and landscaped.
