Migrant Taken to Albania Could Be Brought Back to Italy

Rome: One of the 49 migrants who were taken to Albania early on Tuesday by the Italian Navy’s Cassiopea patrol vessel might be brought back to Italy. This decision comes after it was determined that the individual’s condition was incompatible with detention in Albania, according to well-informed sources.

According to Ansa News Agency, the 49 migrants are currently being screened by Italian officials at the Shengjin hotspot in Albania. This process is part of an agreement between Rome and Tirana, which allows for the processing of migrants in Italian-run centers in Albania before their applications are reviewed.

Previously, a few migrants from the first two groups of asylum seekers transferred to Albania in October and November last year were also sent back to Italy. These transfers occurred after it was determined that the migrants were vulnerable.
