Rome: Premier Giorgia Meloni on Tuesday announced a significant cabinet reshuffle, appointing Tommaso Foti as the new Minister responsible for European affairs, territorial cohesion, and the implementation of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP). These portfolios were previously managed by Raffaele Fitto, who recently became Vice President of the European Commission. Despite these changes, Meloni has chosen to retain the portfolio for the South, signaling her continued focus on the region’s development.
According to Ansa News Agency, Meloni has initiated a ‘reconnaissance’ operation within the government to assess the progress made towards strengthening the South’s development. This includes reviewing current programmes and proposals related to incentives, infrastructure, and investments. Meloni emphasized the South’s significant economic contributions in 2023, noting its role as a “locomotive of Italy” with growth in GDP and employment surpassing the national average, alongside a substantial boo
st in exports.
