Meloni Outraged by Killing of Hero Sniffer Dog Bruno

Rome: Premier Giorgia Meloni expressed outrage and dismay at the weekend at the news that a sniffer dog she had given an award to for his many heroics had been killed by unknown criminals. Bruno, a bloodhound who had helped save nine people during his seven-year career working with the police and the civil protection authority, bled to death after eating a piece of Vienna sausage filled with nails that had been thrown into his kennel at the Endas canine centre near Taranto.

According to Ansa News Agency, it is suspected that the trap was laid for Bruno as a vendetta for his work in operations against groups organizing dog fights. “Heartbreaking news,” Meloni wrote on X in a post featuring the image of a newspaper article with a photo of her smiling next to Bruno. “A vile, cowardly, unacceptable act. Thank you for everything you did, Bruno.”

The head of the Endas centre, Arcangelo Caressa, paid an emotional tribute to Bruno. “I died with you today,” Caressa said. “You fought to help human beings all your life and those same humans did this to you. Murderers, you made him suffer for hours to kill him. When a relative of yours needs Bruno, he will not be there.”
