Meloni-Ministers Appoint Bongiorno in Almasri Legal Proceedings

Rome: Premier Giorgia Meloni, Justice Minister Carlo Nordio, Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi, and Cabinet Secretary with the intelligence brief Alfredo Mantovano have decided to jointly appoint Giulia Bongiorno as the attorney representing them in the case concerning Libyan judicial police commander Najeem Osama Almasri Habish, according to well-informed sources.

According to Ansa News Agency, the choice to appoint Bongiorno underscores the government’s collective approach in exercising its right to defense. Bongiorno was seen entering the premier’s office at Palazzo Chigi on Wednesday morning, signaling the initiation of her role in the proceedings.

Meloni announced on Tuesday that she had received notification of a probe into potential aiding and abetting and embezzlement of public funds from Rome chief prosecutor Francesco Lo Voi. The same notice of investigation was also sent to Nordio, Piantedosi, and Mantovano. This notification followed a criminal complaint filed by attorney Luigi Li Gotti regarding the case.

The Tribunal of Ministers is tasked with examining the case to determine whether to proceed with the investigation or to dismiss it.
