Meloni Joins Top European Leaders at Paris Security Meeting
Paris: Italian Premier Giorgia Meloni was in Paris on Monday to take part in an informal meeting on European security and Ukraine, hosted at the Elysee Palace by French President Emmanuel Macron. The meeting also included the heads of government from Germany, the UK, Poland, Spain, the Netherlands, and Denmark.
According to Ansa News Agency, the President of the European Council Antonio Costa, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte are also participating in the meeting, which is scheduled to start at 4 pm, as stated by the Elysee Palace. Macron organized the gathering due to concerns that US President Donald Trump might strike a deal with Russian President Vladimir Putin to resolve the war in Ukraine in a manner that could undermine Kyiv and European security.
“This meeting aims to start consultations between European leaders on the situation in Ukraine and on the themes of security in Europe,” stated a note from the French president’s office. The Elysee also mentioned that discussions could continue in other formats, aiming to involve all partners interested in peace and security in Europe. No press conference or official statements have been planned following the meeting.
