Rome: President Sergo Mattarella wrote to Leo XIV after his election as the Catholic Church’s 267th pontiff Thursday saying the peace evoked by the former Cardinal Robert Prevost in his initial address was the hope of humanity.
According to Ansa News Agency, President Mattarella emphasized the significance of peace during a time marked by widespread conflicts. In his message, he expressed Italy’s commitment to strengthening relations with the Holy See to promote a global vision based on peace and the protection of inviolable rights, dignity, and freedom for all.
Mattarella highlighted the importance of the message delivered by Pope Leo XIV from the loggia of St. Peter’s, asserting that the peace he advocated is a universal aspiration. The Italian head of State underscored the need for collaboration to address the suffering of innocent victims caught in the midst of ongoing global conflicts.
