Milan: A 37-year-old irregular Moroccan immigrant was sentenced to 12 years and two months in jail for the attempted murder of a police officer at a Milan railway station last May. The incident occurred on the evening of May 8 at Lambrate station, where the man, Hassine Hamis, attempted to stab police deputy inspector Christian Di Martino.

According to Ansa News Agency, the officer’s life was saved thanks to the timely intervention of his colleagues and subsequent surgical operations at the Niguarda hospital in Milan. The verdict was delivered by preliminary hearing judge Silvia Perrucci in an abbreviated trial.

Prosecutor Maura Ripamonti had initially sought a sentence of 13 years and 4 months for Hamis, reflecting the severity of the charges. The case highlights the risks faced by law enforcement officers and the legal consequences of violent actions against them.
