Let’s Open Talks for Kyiv Accession to EU – Mattarella
Rome: President Sergio Mattarella told Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Rome Wednesday that the EU should open talks for the accession of Kyiv. “We have a sincere and committed friendship with Ukraine,” he said as he received Zelensky at the Quirinale Palace.
According to Ansa News Agency, Mattarella expressed Italy’s unwavering support for the Ukrainian people amidst the ongoing conflict. He highlighted the intensification of Russia’s bombing of Ukraine’s population and civilian infrastructure, which, he emphasized, only strengthens Italy’s determination to support Ukraine.
Furthermore, Mattarella conveyed the urgency of finding a resolution to the current situation, while reiterating his backing for Ukraine’s accession to the European Union. “I hope that negotiations will open soon,” stated the head of state, underscoring the importance of initiating talks for Ukraine’s EU membership.
