Leonardo and Baykar Forge Joint Venture for UAV Production


Rome: Italian defence-and-aerospace giant Leonardo and Turkey’s Baykar Technologies on Thursday signed a memorandum of understanding to set up a joint venture to produce unmanned aerial vehicles. The collaboration aims to strengthen their foothold in the European UAV market, with the joint venture based in Italy.



According to Ansa News Agency, the companies anticipate that the European market for UAVs will be valued at approximately 100 billion dollars over the next decade. The partnership will leverage Baykar’s ethical AI-driven technologies and Leonardo’s expertise in AI to develop advanced solutions for unmanned aerial systems.



The statement from the companies highlighted the aim of achieving AI-driven air supremacy in future aerial technologies. The Leonardo sites involved in the joint venture’s activities will include locations in Ronchi dei Legionari, Turin, Rome Tiburtina, and Nerviano.
