La Scala Usher Fired for Shouting ‘Free Palestine’ During Concert
Milan: An usher at the renowned La Scala opera house in Milan has been dismissed after shouting “Free Palestine” when Premier Giorgia Meloni entered the royal box at a concert on May 4, trade union officials announced on Thursday.
According to Ansa News Agency, the dismissal of the young usher has sparked a strong reaction from the Cub Informazione and Spettacolo union at the theatre. In a statement, the union criticized the decision, referring to it as a “guillotine verdict” by the management against the staff member who protested from the first gallery.
The La Scala union has pledged to take all necessary union actions to defend the usher, whom they described as courageous. The union also expressed its full solidarity with the dismissed staff member, asserting their commitment to her defense.
