Juvenile Homicide Rates Increase in Italy: Report

Rome: The proportion of homicides committed by minors in Italy rose significantly to 11% in 2024, compared to 4% in the previous year, as reported by the interior ministry’s Criminalpol department.

According to Ansa News Agency, the report also indicated an increase in the proportion of homicide victims under the age of 18, which climbed to 7% from 4% in 2023. Despite these troubling trends involving minors, the overall number of homicides registered in Italy last year was 319, marking a 6% decrease from the 340 cases reported in 2023 and a 33% reduction from the 475 cases in 2025.

The report highlighted a significant decrease in mafia-linked crimes, which dropped by 72%, from 53 cases in 2015 to just 15 in 2024. This data underscores a shifting pattern in the nature of violent crimes in Italy, with a notable rise in juvenile involvement despite the overall decline in homicide rates.
