Jubilee 2025 Sparks Discussion on Roots Tourism Enhancement

Vatican City: Yesterday, at Palazzo Borromeo, the event ‘Jubilee 2025 and Roots Tourism. Synergies and opportunities for the rediscovery and enhancement of territories,’ was organized by the Embassy of Italy to the Holy See in conjunction with the Directorate General for Italians Abroad and Migration Policies of the Farnesina, headed by Luigi Maria Vignali. The event focused on the opportunities that the Holy Year offers for the Italian territory, particularly through the “Tourism of Roots” project, which is strongly supported by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Antonio Tajani.

According to Ansa News Agency, the Farnesina emphasized the importance of making Italians abroad and Italian-descendant communities familiar with Italy’s territories and identity factors. This theme was echoed in speeches by Antonio Corsi, Minister Tajani’s advisor for promoting cultural and musical traditions of Italian communities abroad and Mayor of Sgurgola, and Gianluigi Tombolini, advisor for tourism enhancement and Mayor of Numana.

Representing the Holy See, Msgr. Graziano Borgonovo, Undersecretary of the Dicastery for Evangelisation, contributed to the discussions. From the Italian Episcopal Conference, Don Michele Gianola, Undersecretary and Director of the Office for the pastoral care of leisure, tourism, and sport, shared insights. The event also featured representatives from across Italy, presenting diverse experiences of territorial enhancement and discussing the implementation of “Tourism of Roots” in various regions. Participants included Andrea Maria Antonini, Councillor of the Marche Region; Agostino Miozzo, Advisor to the President of the Region of Calabria and Commissioner for the reception of the Jubilee 2025; and the Mayors of Aquileia, Caramanico Terme, San Romano in Garfagnana, and Sant’Angelo dei Lombardi.
