Jannik Sinner Eyes Return with Renewed Mentality After Doping Ban
Rome: Jannik Sinner expressed that he had “lost the fun” before and during his three-month doping ban but is set to return with a different outlook for the upcoming Italian Open in Rome scheduled from May 6 to 18.
According to Ansa News Agency, the 23-year-old South Tyrolean, who has previously won both the US Open and the Australian Open twice, will maintain his position as world number one despite the doping suspension. His ranking remains intact following Carlos Alcaraz’s recent lackluster performances. Sinner shared his thoughts in an exclusive interview with Rai 1, which will be broadcasted this evening, noting that he is thrilled to be back on the court for the special tournament in Rome.
Sinner admitted that during his time off the court, he did not feel the joy that a player should experience. “We train a lot to have fun when we play a good match. This fun, day after day, for me has gone away because I have thought about other things,” he stated. He is eager to return to competition, emphasizing the importance of being well-prepared and the anticipation of support from the Italian fans.
Furthermore, Sinner participated in an interview with Intesa Sanpaolo bank, where he shared personal reflections, including his future aspirations of having children. However, he emphasized that it is not the right time for him as he is focused on maintaining his top position in tennis. He explained that staying at the top requires dedication, consistency, and passion.
Sinner also reflected on the sacrifices he has made to reach his current status, including missing out on typical youthful activities. He expressed gratitude towards Alex Vittur, his best friend and confidant, for his support throughout his career. As he prepares for his return, Sinner acknowledged the progress he has made in his game, particularly in his forehand and serve.
With a firm commitment to his sport, Sinner is optimistic about his return and is focused on working hard to achieve future success in his career.
