Italy’s Unemployment Rate Declines to 5.9% in April
Rome: Italy’s unemployment rate was 5.9% in April, down 0.2 of a percentage point on March, according to provisional data released by Istat on Tuesday.
According to Ansa News Agency, the national statistics agency reported that the jobless rate for under-25s who are active on the labour market decreased by 1.2 points to 19.2%. Additionally, the inactivity rate for the working-age population rose 0.1 of a point to 33.2%.
Istat indicated that 24.2 million people were in employment in Italy in April, a figure that remains stable compared to March. The employment rate was also stable at 62.7%.
The agency highlighted that the number of people in work increased by 282,000 compared to April 2024. The data showed that the number of people employed on permanent contracts rose by 345,000, the self-employed increased by 110,000, while the number of temporary workers decreased by 173,000.
