Italy’s Blue-Flag Resorts Increase to 246, Marking a Significant Rise

Rome: The number of Italian seaside and lakeside resorts awarded the prestigious blue flag designation for cleanliness and sustainability has risen by 10 to 246 this year, the international Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) reported in its annual release. This increase highlights Italy’s ongoing commitment to environmental standards in its popular coastal and lakeside regions.

According to Ansa News Agency, the report noted that while there were 15 new Italian entries to the list, five municipalities lost their blue flag status. In addition, the number of Italian blue flag marinas increased from 81 to 85, contributing to a total of 487 Italian beaches that are now eligible to fly the flag this year. This figure represents 11.5% of the worldwide total, underscoring Italy’s prominence in maintaining high standards of beach cleanliness and sustainability.

Liguria continues to lead with 33 blue-flag resorts, although this number decreased by one compared to 2024. Puglia follows with 27, having added three new entries, while Calabria also saw an increase, now boasting 23 blue-flag resorts, up by three from the previous year.
