Italy Unveils Cultural Program for Expo 2025 Osaka at International Planning Meeting
Osaka: On 15-16 January 2025, 600 organizers and representatives from the countries participating in Expo 2025 Osaka gathered at the Himeji City Culture and Convention Center in Hyogo Prefecture, Japan. During this International Planning Meeting (IPM), Italy showcased its cultural and technological contributions for the upcoming Expo.
According to Ansa News Agency, Italy engaged in a double appointment at the IPM: an “Individual Press Conference” and the “Pavilion Showcase Forum: Sharing Global Visions.” Commissioner General for Italy at Expo 2025 Osaka, Ambassador Mario Vattani, revealed plans for the Italy Pavilion, designed by Studio MCA – Mario Cucinella Architects. The Pavilion, themed “Art Regenerates Life,” presents a modern interpretation of the Renaissance’s Ideal City.
Ambassador Vattani described the Italy Pavilion as a “gallery of discovery,” offering an experience that celebrates Made in Italy’s excellence. The Pavilion will serve as a dynamic space where culture meets business opportunities, blending tradition with innovation. It aims to highlight Italy’s diverse regions and territories on the global stage.
Italy’s participation at Expo 2025 Osaka will emphasize creativity, technology, and sustainability. The Pavilion will feature contributions from various sectors, including life sciences, aerospace with the Italian Space Agency, and underwater technology from the Italian National Hub of La Spezia. A focus on energy will be highlighted by the Danieli Group’s green steel project, demonstrating revolutionary energy-saving technology.
Cultural exhibits will include ancient masterpieces such as the Farnese Atlas from the National Archaeological Museum of Naples, displayed in Asia for the first time. The Holy See will present Caravaggio’s “The Entombment of Christ,” offering a unique viewing experience. Additionally, Tintoretto’s portrait of Ito Mancio will celebrate historical ties between Italy and Japan.
The Pavilion will also showcase contemporary art, Italian design, and craftsmanship, collaborating with ADI to promote the Compasso d’Oro International Award. The Pavilion’s restaurant will offer regional Italian cuisine, and a rich program of live performances will feature diverse musical genres, with special attention to Italian Opera.
