Italy Unprepared for Potential Attacks, Says Defence Minister Crosetto

Rome: Defence Minister Guido Crosetto announced on Monday that Italy is currently unprepared for an attack from Russia or any other nation. Speaking at an event featuring the Italian Navy’s Amerigo Vespucci training ship, Crosetto emphasized the urgent need for Italy to bolster its defense capabilities.

According to Ansa News Agency, Crosetto expressed concerns over Italy’s current defensive posture, stating, “We are not ready for either a Russian attack or an attack by another nation.” He highlighted that this has been a longstanding issue, saying, “I’ve been saying this for a long time.”

Crosetto further explained the necessity of enhancing Italy’s defense systems, noting, “I think it’s our job to put this country in a position to defend itself if a madman decides to attack us: I don’t say Putin, I say anyone.” He pointed out the lack of investment in defense over the past two decades, which has left Italy vulnerable. “We are not (in this position) because we have not invested in defence any more over the last 20 years, and you can’t make up for 20 years in one year or two years,” Crosetto concluded.
