Italy to Seek Transitional Regime on State Aid to Counter Trump Tariffs
Rome: Premier Giorgia Meloni announced plans to request a transitional regime on State aid from the European Commission following discussions with business sectors in Rome about the impact of Trump-imposed tariffs. The move aims to free up resources to mitigate the effects of these tariffs on Italian businesses.
According to Ansa News Agency, Meloni emphasized the urgency of negotiating with the EU Commission to secure a transitional regime that would allow for greater flexibility in revising the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP), utilizing cohesion funds, and defining the Social Plan for climate initiatives. The premier stated, “We intend to immediately take action to start a strong negotiation with the EU Commission for a transitional regime on State aid and greater flexibility.”
Meloni further committed to identifying available resources that would not affect public finances, underscoring the government’s dedication to initiating discussions with business leaders on optimal resource allocation. “We are committed to identifying all the resources, starting from those available that do not have an impact on public finances, and we are here to start a discussion with you on how to best spend these resources,” she added.
