Italy to Establish Dedicated Cyber Army, Announces Defence Minister Crosetto

Rome: Italy will soon establish its own cyber army, as announced by Defence Minister Guido Crosetto. The initiative was unveiled in a video message during the ComoLake tech event, where Crosetto emphasized the importance of defending the digital domain alongside traditional domains such as land, sea, air, and space.

According to Ansa News Agency, the proposed cyber army will initially consist of 1,200 to 1,500 personnel, primarily operational staff. The ultimate aim is to develop a larger, fully autonomous force capable of effectively addressing a wide range of cyber threats. Crosetto highlighted the cyber dimension as a critical operational domain of security, requiring constant and integrated capabilities.

Crosetto elaborated on the necessity of a national cyber force with both civilian and military components. This force is envisioned to operate continuously, 24/7, throughout the year, to ensure the protection and integrity of Italy’s digital infrastructure.
