Italy Targets 2035 for NATO Defense Spending Goals, Says Crosetto

Brussels: Italy and several allied nations, including the UK, are aiming to meet NATO’s defense spending target of 3.5% of GDP by 2035, according to Defence Minister Guido Crosetto. He made these remarks during a meeting of NATO defense ministers.

According to Ansa News Agency, Crosetto highlighted that the upcoming leaders’ meeting at the end of June will address the goal of allocating 3.5% of GDP to defense, along with an additional 1.5% for parallel capabilities. The timeline for achieving these objectives varies among the member countries, with some aiming for immediate implementation and others targeting 2032 or 2035.

Crosetto noted that Italy has aligned with the UK’s stance on reaching the capability objectives by 2035. The outcome of these discussions will be further evaluated during the June meeting scheduled to take place in The Hague.
