Italy Selected for Pilot Program on Social Media Age Verification
Rome: Italy has been selected to participate in a pilot program aimed at introducing an age verification app for social media users. This initiative, announced by the European Commission, seeks to ensure that users are over 18 without compromising their privacy.
According to Ansa News Agency, the app will also undergo testing in France, Spain, Greece, and Denmark. Henna Virkkunen of Finland, who serves as the Executive Vice-President of the European Commission for Technological Sovereignty, Security, and Democracy, shared these details.
This development forms part of the EU’s broader strategy under the new Digital Service Act, which focuses on enhancing digital security and privacy across member states.
