Italy Sees Unprecedented Rise in Influenza Cases, Surpassing 16 Million

Rome: In the 2024-2025 influenza season, Italy has recorded an estimated 16,129,000 cases of influenza-like syndrome across the nation, marking an unprecedented level for the country. This figure represents the highest number of cases recorded in any previous influenza season.

According to Ansa News Agency, the data comes from the latest RespiVirNet surveillance report by the Higher Health Institute (ISS), which provided a detailed analysis of the influenza situation for the last week of April, from the 21st to the 27th. The report highlighted that during this week, the percentage of samples testing positive for influenza was 3.7%, equating to 221,000 new cases. This number showed a decrease from the previous week’s rate of 5.6%, suggesting a potential downward trend.
