Italy Reaffirms Commitment to Peace in Alignment with EU and UN Principles

Rome: Italy promotes peace as enshrined in its Constitution and in the founding documents of the European Union, President Sergio Mattarella said Thursday. “Peace is a principle that has become a cornerstone of international law and represents the foundation of the global legal order, as solemnly affirmed by the Charter of the United Nations, which, in Article 1, identifies the maintenance of international peace and security as the primary objective of the UN,” he said in a message to the President of the Italian Society of International Law and European Union Law.

According to Ansa News Agency, President Mattarella emphasized the Italian Republic’s commitment to promoting peace, its values, and the well-being of its citizens, as stated in Article 3 of the EU Treaty to which Italy adheres. The President’s remarks underscore Italy’s dedication to international cooperation and its role in fostering a peaceful global environment.
