Italy Experiences Hottest Year on Record in 2024 with Significant Temperature Increases

Rome: 2024 was the hottest year in the historical series in Italy with two new records: +1.33 degrees centigrade for the average temperature and +1.4 degrees for the minimum, both calculated with respect to the reference average 1991-2020, a new report said Friday. The trend observed at European level is therefore confirmed also in the Bel Paese.

According to Ansa News Agency, precipitation was abundant in the North compared to the average (+38%), but lower in the South and on the major islands (-18%), with a worsening of the water severity during the year. The picture emerged from the Report “The climate in Italy in 2024” by SNPA – National System for Environmental Protection, composed of ISPRA – Higher Institute for Environmental Protection and Research – and the Environmental Agencies of the Regions and Autonomous Provinces (ARPA/APPA).
