Italy Emphasizes Openness and Hospitality at University Ceremony

Perugia: President Sergio Mattarella attended the ceremony marking the 100th academic year of Perugia’s University for Foreigners. The event was a significant milestone for the institution, celebrated with the presence of Umbria Governor Stefania Proietti, Perugia Mayor Vittoria Ferdinandi, Prefect Armando Gradone, the University’s Dean Valerio De Cesaris, and local school children waving Italian flags.

According to Ansa News Agency, prior to the ceremony, President Mattarella met with representatives of the university’s students and staff. These interactions set the stage for the day’s celebrations, which included a variety of cultural initiatives planned by the university to honor its centennial anniversary in the coming months.

In his address during the inauguration, Mattarella emphasized the university’s role in showcasing the diverse yet unified nature of Italy. He noted that the institution symbolizes “many diversities which have a common value that keeps them together: that Italy is a welcoming, open Country.” The President also highlighted the significance of these efforts, stating they hold “great relevance that deserve the Republic’s gratitude.”
