Italy Closes In On France As Bond Spread Hits Record Low

Rome: The spread between Italian and French ten-year government bonds briefly fell on Monday to less than 10 basis points, marking its lowest level since 2005. This development highlights the narrowing yield differential, which serves as a reflection of the risk premium investors demand when investing in debt.

According to Ansa News Agency, this spread is poised to reach zero for the first time since the euro’s introduction. This prediction is attributed to the greater political stability under the Meloni government in Italy and the significant budget deficit in France. The current yield differential is notably 200 basis points less than it was three years ago, underscoring the shifting economic landscape in the Eurozone.
