Italian Surveillance Plane Engaged in NATO’s Response to Polish Airspace Violation

London: Defence Minister Guido Crosetto on Wednesday confirmed reports that an Italian surveillance plane was involved in NATO’s response after Russian drones violated Poland’s airspace overnight. “Italian aircraft are part of NATO and are ready to defend our allies, as we expect their allies would do if Italy were threatened,” Crosetto stated on the sidelines of the E5 ministerial meeting.

According to Ansa News Agency, Crosetto emphasized the unity within NATO, describing the incursion as the most severe violation of European airspace since the war began. The incident in Poland involved a deliberate attack with more than 20 Russian drones, which Crosetto condemned as an unacceptable act aimed at provoking and testing NATO’s resolve.

Moscow’s actions, as described by Crosetto, are seen as deliberately escalating tensions, with no apparent interest in pursuing truce or peace. He expressed solidarity with Polish Defence Minister Kosiniak Kamysz and the Polish populace, reaffirming Italy’s commitment alongsid
e NATO allies to defend security and peace.
