Italian Retail Sales Experience Modest Growth in June
Rome: Retail sales in Italy experienced a 0.6% increase in value and a 0.4% rise in volume in June compared to May, Istat reported on Friday.
According to Ansa News Agency, the national statistics agency also indicated that there was a 1.0% increase in retail sales’ value compared to June 2024, although the volume saw a 0.7% decrease year-on-year. This data highlights a shift in consumer purchasing behavior over the past year.
Large-scale distribution saw a significant rise, with retail sales increasing by 3.4%, while online sales surged by 4.1% compared to June 2024. However, small-scale retail experienced a decline of 1.7%, and non-store sales fell by 1.9%, as reported by Istat.
The mixed results illustrate the evolving retail landscape in Italy, with a notable shift towards larger and online retailers at the expense of smaller establishments.
