Italian Delegation Heads to Washington to Discuss Tariffs with US Officials

Ravenna: Deputy Premier and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani announced on Monday that an Italian delegation had traveled to Washington to engage in discussions with US officials regarding the pre-announced tariffs on European goods. This visit is being conducted in collaboration with the European Commission, which holds exclusive jurisdiction over commercial agreements.

According to Ansa News Agency, Tajani, speaking at a congress in Ravenna, emphasized the importance of the discussions, stating, “There is a delegation I sent to Washington today to discuss with the American (officials) responsible about the tariff situation.” He emphasized that the delegation’s efforts are being made in coordination with the European Commission.

Discussing the potential impact of US tariffs on European goods, Tajani outlined the Italian government’s strategy to support its exports. “The government has a project in mind to attempt to ensure that our exports can continue to progress,” he said. Tajani also highlighted the need to expand Italy’s presence in markets such as Mexico, Gulf countries, Indonesia, Japan, and Turkey, alongside maintaining dialogue with the US.

“Our products are of great quality and those who want an Italian product buy it even if it costs more,” Tajani remarked, underscoring the resilience and appeal of Italian goods. He concluded by expressing confidence in the strength of Italian products, suggesting that the high quality allows Italy to approach the tariff issue without excessive concern.
