Italian Consumer Spending in 2025 Sees Moderate Increase, Still Below 2007 Peaks

Rome: Average spending by Italian families in 2025 has risen to £22,144 per capita, marking an increase of £239 compared to previous figures calculated at 2025 prices. However, this remains below the peak levels observed in 2007, when per capita spending reached £22,334.

According to Ansa News Agency, Confcommercio reported on Wednesday, drawing from Istat data, that this figure includes “imputed rent” for residential housing as part of overall consumption. The retail association highlighted significant shifts in spending patterns over the past thirty years, noting substantial growth in technology and leisure sectors.

Over this period, there has been a notable decline in expenditure on food and energy, while spending on computers and phones has experienced a remarkable increase of nearly 3,000%. Confcommercio attributes this shift to the technology boom that has reshaped consumption habits across Italy.
