Italian Ceramics Exhibition Opens in Warsaw

Warsaw: The exhibition ‘Mater ceramica, materia viva e attuale’ is set to offer an extensive insight into Italian ceramic production, showcasing works from the early 20th century to the present day. The exhibition highlights selected pieces by renowned artists and designers from the Museo Internazionale delle Ceramiche (MIC) in Faenza, home to the world’s most significant collection dedicated to ceramics.

According to Ansa News Agency, the exhibition presents an itinerary that captures the evolution of ceramics, beginning in the early 20th century. It explores the new directions ceramics took between the two world wars, influenced by the Monza Biennials and the Milan Triennials. The exhibition also emphasizes the resurgence of ceramic production under the Made in Italy label post-World War II and the growing popularity of ceramics, as evidenced by its inclusion in major international exhibitions like the Biennials.

The exhibition project features twenty works, starting from the Art Nouveau period with pieces by Domenico Beccarini and Galileo Chini. It covers the design innovations of Gi² Ponti, linked to prominent manufacturers like Ginori, the eclectic styles of Arturo Martini, and Francesco Nonni’s Art Deco tastes. It then progresses to contemporary expressions from the latter half of the 20th century, showcasing works by artists such as Lucio Fontana, Fausto Melotti, and Enrico Baj, among others. Present-day contributions include hyperrealist works by Bertozzi and Casoni and material pieces by Giacinto Cerrone, Antonio Violetta, and Alessandro Roma.

The exhibition, part of the Italian Design Day 2025 programme, will open on 13 February at 7 p.m. at the Italian Cultural Institute. This event is made possible through collaboration with the Emilia Romagna Region.
