Italian Bishops Conference Reports 115 Alleged Clerical Abuse Victims in 2023-2024

Rome: The Italian Bishops Conference (CEI) has revealed in its third report on clerical abuse that there were 115 alleged victims between 2023 and 2024.

According to Ansa News Agency, the report specified that out of the 115 alleged victims, 64 were males and 51 were females. During the same period, there were 69 cases of alleged abuse reported, with 27 incidents occurring within parish settings. The alleged perpetrators, totaling 67, were primarily identified as clerics.

The report further highlighted a rise in the number of cases, increasing from 32 to 37 between 2023 and 2024. Additionally, allegations of “spiritual and conscience abuses” showed a significant increase, jumping from 4 to 17 cases, as noted by the CEI.
