Interior Minister Piantedosi Rejects Council of Europe Racism Allegations Against Italian Police

Rome: Council of Europe racism allegations against Italian police forces are unacceptable, Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi said Wednesday. “I find it surprising and unacceptable that the Council of Europe, which should protect democracy, human rights and dialogue between peoples, makes unfounded and ideological judgments, such as the accusations of racism made against our Police Forces,” Piantedosi said.

According to Ansa News Agency, Piantedosi expressed his dissatisfaction with the Council of Europe’s stance. He noted, “In the past, I considered the Council of Europe an institution with little impact, often distant from the real needs of citizens.” He further commented that after what he described as another unjust attack on those who risk their lives for public safety, the Council of Europe risks becoming harmful from a condition of dubious usefulness.

Piantedosi emphasized the need for serious reflection on the role and effectiveness of certain international organizations, which he criticized for being increasingly inclined to produce ideological documents rather than addressing actual issues.
