Rome: The imam of Rome’s Great Mosque has announced his intention to attend the funeral of Pope Francis at St Peter’s on Saturday, describing the late pontiff as his “brother.”
According to Ansa News Agency, Imam Nader Akkad confirmed his participation, expressing a strong desire to be present at the funeral. He stated, “It is our desire to be there and we will certainly be there.”
Imam Akkad further shared his personal connection with Pope Francis, referring to him as a friend and brother. He emphasized the significance of the pontiff, saying, “For all of us he meant a lot. Pope Francis is ‘our’ Pope. He was able to conquer our hearts.”
