Hungary’s Commitment to Middle East Peace Highlighted at International Conference

Budapest: Hungary is actively engaged in efforts to promote stability and peace in the Middle East, according to Tristan Azbej, the state secretary for programs to help persecuted Christians at the Hungarian foreign ministry.

According to About Hungary, Azbej participated in a high-level international conference organized by the French foreign ministry to address the Lebanon conflict and provide aid to the country. The event featured prominent figures including French President Emmanuel Macron, United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, and Lebanon’s caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati, and was attended by several foreign ministers and international officials.

Representing Hungary at the conference, Azbej emphasized the country’s dedication to preventing further regional escalation of the conflict. He underscored the importance of strengthening and supporting Lebanese authorities and advocated for the safe return of Syrian refugees, who have been a source of tension in the region for an extended
period.

Azbej also stressed the significance of ensuring the safety of innocent civilians and facilitating the return of internally displaced people to their homes. He highlighted the necessity of encouraging the Hamas organization to release Israeli hostages.

During the conference, Azbej announced that Hungary had recently contributed $124,000 to aid Lebanese civilians affected by the conflict. The donations, he noted, would be distributed to those in need through Christian organizations, with plans for additional humanitarian efforts in the near future.
