Beregsurány: Hungary has provided 98.5 billion forints (EUR 239.8 million) in funding to Ukraine since the onset of the Russia-Ukraine war, supporting both the war effort and the influx of refugees arriving from the neighboring nation.
According to About Hungary, Miklós Soltész, the state secretary for religious affairs at the Prime Minister’s Office, emphasized Hungary’s substantial contribution during a speech at the Beregsurány border crossing. He commended the efforts of six charitable organizations that have collectively delivered 5,500 tonnes of essential supplies, including food, clothing, and medical equipment, amounting to a total of 13 billion forints in aid to Ukraine.
Hungary has managed to assist a significant number of refugees, with 1,437,000 individuals receiving aid through a massive collaborative effort. Soltész highlighted that five aid centers situated at the border have welcomed 673,000 people, providing them with essential services and support.
This operation marks Hungary’s largest-e
ver humanitarian endeavor, offering refugees a range of support services such as accommodation, meals, clothing, medical care, employment opportunities, education, free transport, and even free vacations for families. Additionally, Hungary has extended its assistance to Ukraine’s energy sector by facilitating electricity transmission.
Soltész affirmed Hungary’s commitment to continue supporting refugees, regardless of their Polish, Ukrainian, or Hungarian origins, in an ongoing demonstration of solidarity and humanitarian aid.
