Government and Fidesz-KDNP Committed to Maintaining Functionality in Budapest
Budapest: The government and the Fidesz-KDNP group in the Budapest Assembly are committed to ensuring that the capital city remains fully functional, with public services operating smoothly and municipal employees receiving their wages on time, as stated by Fidesz-KDNP caucus leader Alexandra Szentkirályi in a Facebook post on Sunday.
According to About Hungary, Szentkirályi expressed her hopes that all members of the Budapest Assembly share the objective of prioritizing the interests of residents over short-term political considerations. She emphasized that achieving this goal requires clear and honest communication. Szentkirályi highlighted the possibility of looming insolvency from early next year and urged the city leadership to address it openly and seek necessary assistance, rather than creating tensions among municipal employees or playing games with Budapest residents.
Szentkirályi criticized Mayor Gergely Karácsony’s proposal for Monday’s extraordinary assembly meeting, describing it as primarily a
imed at stirring political sentiment rather than solving real issues. She mentioned that the Fidesz-KDNP group has submitted an amendment focused on the interests of Budapest residents. Szentkirályi emphasized the importance of a transparent situation as the foundation for any genuine solution and highlighted the need to address the capital’s financial issues, including the former 214-billion-forint reserve and recent expenditures introduced amid near-bankruptcy conditions. She clarified that addressing these concerns is about ensuring sustainable and predictable financial management, not seeking conflict.
In conclusion, Szentkirályi reiterated that the shared goal is a functioning and stable Budapest, which requires responsible decisions from the mayor rather than efforts to maintain a political image.
